Everyday teens are struggling of
trying to perfect their physical features. Whether it’s the way they look or
they way their body is shaped, all they want is to be accepted by society. Some
teens would be so desperate as to go on irrelevant diet, which would cause most
of them to obtain an eating disorder. Teen eating disorders is a major dilemma
in todays society that is usually caused by a disapproval of someone’s self
image, and that is why not only teens but parents should watch on the amount of
food their teens eat weather it be too much or to little.
Although
watching your diet could be a good thing, some teens take dieting to severely
even though it is inappropriate for then to be doing it. That’s why teens need
to start watching on the amount of food that they eat rather then limiting it
to a certain extent. In an article about eating disorders, its says, “to not
worry if your body isn’t perfect”. If teens were to think about this before
dieting, then there it would decrease the amount of teen eating disorders. It
would also be a more healthy way of accepting your own self-image. In the same
article, its states that “severe dieting for teens could lead to eating
disorders such as anorexia and bulimia”.
Teens might want to reconsider dieting if its not necessary after
knowing this. It might also change the minds of other people who think that
major dieting or inappropriate isn’t a big issue, which brings me to my second
reason why it is necessary.
Some
people may argue that if you think that you are under weight, then there are no
limitations to how much you eat or if you think that you are over weight, then
a great restriction to how much you eat is a good thing and that and that being
neglectful on making sure that you have a healthy diet is not a big deal.
Studies state, “Dieting to extremes may cause anorexia nervosa”. This shows that dieting isn’t always a good
thing. Hopefully it would change the minds of people who think that not eating
is a good way to loose weight. According to Carre Otis, a victim of an eating
disorder who recovered, “I decided if I ate less I could somehow postpone not
only my bodily changes but perhaps I could avoid greater unknown”. If she kept
thinking this then she might not have had recovered from her eating disorder. Its
also shows that not only teens but their parents should worry about their kids
diet because if someone haven’t helped her, then she would still be on that
strict diet causing her eating disorder and this also brings me to another
topic.
Usually
when teens get over an eating disorder, they usually don’t go through it alone
but there are times when they are the cause of the eating disorder. That is why
parents should help their teens with their eating disorder. An article from
shepellfgi.com says, “Guardians or relatives critical of a young person’s
weight or body shape can lead to low self-esteem”. Low self-esteem is one of
the major causes of getting an eating disorder. If the parents where to be more
sensitive about he young persons weight or body then they would have avoided
the young person having low self-esteem. From the same article, it states, “there
are genetic links to anorexia, bulimia, and bing eating“. If this is true then
having a parent or anyone would help teens go through the trouble of having an
eating disorder in there genetics. Parents are also responsible for their teen’s
health.
That
is why teen eating disorders is a major dilemma in todays society that is
usually caused by a disapproval of someone’s self image, and that is why not
only teens but parents should watch on the amount of food their teens eat
weather it be too much or to little. Some teens would do anything to have a
body that society would accept. And that is the reason why teens would do
anything to perfect their physical features.
